Movie Ads: Johnny Tinoso and the Proud Beauty (1994)

In January 1994, right after the Metro Manila Film Festival, Jestoni Alarcon and Gretchen Barretto were paired in the fantasy film Johnny Tiñoso and the Proud Beauty. The film's story was based on a work of Nick Joaquin, a Philippine National Artist for Literature.

This is a newspaper advertisement for the film:

  1. Oh, I was wondering why I don't have a recollection of this film, and looked again on the year it was shown - 1994, I was a year abroad, residing in Germany!

I enjoyed reading Nick Joaquin in high school, but missed Johnny Tiñoso and the Proud Beauty. Very interesting plot, and I'm Googling now because you made me curious. :)

  2. I believed I watched this movie in one of those cinema one things. It's a classic for sure though not to my cup of tea.

  3. Parang I saw this before though the effects were much simpler but the stories were great. Also, I did remember one Jestoni Alarcon movie in the past that scared the hell out of me, when I was a kid... "Huwag Mong Buhayin ang Bangkay."

  4. This is certainly a classic film, as I wasn't a teenager yet when this was shown. By the way, where do you get copies of old photos such as this one?

    1. Some old newspapers and magazines survived the test of time in our house. I use those materials for posts. :)

    1. As of the date when the post was made, I haven't seen a copy in VCD nor DVD format in video stores in the Metro Manila. I suggest checking online sites to verify availability. The movie is also shown on the Sky Cable channel Cinema One occasionally.
