On January 22, a female friend of Navarro invited him to come over to the condominium unit. A group of men then allegedly tied up and attacked him inside the unit. Navarro's manager, film director Chito Rono, said the comedian was also threatened and was a victim of extortion.

The GMA news program 24 Oras Weekend reported that according to police blotter, the assault was motivated by Navarro's alleged rape attempt on the said "female friend." The incident is still under further investigation.
Vhong Navarro's career in show business started during the '90s as a member of Streetboys, Rono's dance group. Navarro then ventured into television, appearing in sitcoms such as Home Along Da Riles, Whattamen, and Toda Max. In late 2003, Navarro was launched as a movie comedian, playing the title role in Mr. Suave. A few weeks later, he welcomed the New Year with the superhero-comedy flick Gagamboy.
Navarro is also a novelty recording artist. Totoy Bibbo, Don Romantiko and Ayos Na ang Buto-Buto are among his hits.
