If you haven’t read the post of Scytherage in his blog then read it here.

I would just skip through the paragraphs and concentrate on the tips he provided, because there are errors in his tips.

1. A good tip, but you have to know why you should do this. Charge characters(Guile, Balrog, Dictator etc.) have moves that requires you to charge back for 2 seconds before you are able to execute the moves. It also enables you to execute moves at the start of the round, it works great with them because most charge moves have little recovery frames which means that most of your opponent would never be able to retaliate even if they blocked your move.

2. It’s not the best, but its the most commonly used. It also makes you stay in a position of your own choosing.

3. Make a habit of going back to a charge position after you do a move. And that also depends on the character on what position you should go back to.

4. That’s a cancel. If you want a combo just do a two crouching low kick then crouching high kick. And on his sample combo, you could just hold on the opunch button then releasing it after doing the motion. It’s called negative edge, because the computer consider the release of the button as a different press.

5. Wrong wrong wrong. In a player match, don’t ever rely on a combo, because most of the time the opponent will never make you hit the combo on him. You have to always remember to learn how to hit the opponent. If you learn the intricacies of when and how you can hit the opponent, just then you can try to use a combo on those circumstances. Try using Boxer and use his standing fierce punch at mid range, most of the time you will hit the opponent or stuff the move he is doing. You can win a match only doing this.

6. Actually it’s more efficient to just learn when to throw AND counter-throw. Try to challenge yourself… Have a match with someone and just try to throw him as many times as you can without resorting to any other moves.

7. A huge mistake here. Why do people press alot of low punch in this circumstance… and why it’s not applicable to all characters. Scytherage uses Shoto that’s why its good if he uses it. Anyways, the reason for most high level players doing this is for positional advantage. You have to remember when playing Street Fighter, your aim is to gain the position most advantageous to you aside from depleting the opponent’s life bar. For Ryu, his advantageous position is just beyond the range of his crouching high kick. Why? Because(okay the only thing that would negate this is focus attack) alot of traps work here. If the opponent jumps you could easily just shoryuken his ass… If an opponent moves, you could easily sweep him, and you can keep on doing fireball to maintain pressure. Try to find out what your character’s advantageous position is.

8. The combo he provided is wrong. It would be better to use a crouching low kick instead of crouching medium kick. A guy could easily shoryuken you when pressing crouching medium kick… In the case of Focus attack he’ll just absorb it.

9. Okay… Do not follow what he said. A cross up is an attack made by hitting your character’s back. Usually, you have to block by pressing forward. there are alot of characters that do not have to be close proximity to you to cross you up(In example Vega, Blanka, Dictator). Just keep that in mind, if the attack hits you on the back… It’s a cross up.

10. When choosing what move to end the match… make sure you choose the move most likely to hit the opponent. Doesn’t matter if it’s an ultra or a special move or normal move.

11. AKuma’s Ultra is unblockable. Don’t believe what he said. You could dodge the move or avoid it… But you can’t block it.

12. No idea. Probably true

13. Mashing low punch is not a good idea. Learn to press the button as soon as you see the Blanka Ball.

14. May only work against fellow beginners.

15. It works.

16. same as above.

17. If you’re starting at the game… It’s alot better if you start at the fundamentals instead of learning any combos.

18.
